First of all he was seduced
by surrealism, then he left
this subjective logic to
become an instrument, a
witness and submitted
himself to the rigours of a
profession which allowed
him to make what Aristotle
called physeas mimesis :
nature's reflection.
Cyril Vassiliev has depicted
his wanderings like a
documentalist dogged by
light, water, air and earth.
The architecture of St-
Petersbourg, of Paris, and of
Cerro Santa Lucia in
Santiago, the vegetation
and the spaces appear in
the fine texture of his
painting.
Witness, artisan,
apprentice, instrument : that
his how this painter of
immensities defines his
way to be an artist
